2015 Cyclocross News

Although there is lots of summer left, here is some cyclocross news from Cycling Manitoba:
  • The chip timing system (which is awesome) requires people to run it. It's an intuitive system, but does have a learning curve. If you are interested in volunteering to help for one or more races, please let the Cyclocross Chairperson (Terry Macyk) know. An honorarium is provided to timing crew members. And you'll have the thanks of many, many racers.
  • We will be reusing the cloth numbers issued to racers last year (2 ONE body number plus 2 shoulder numbers). If you have lost your set, please let the Cyclocross Chair know.
  • New for this year, to help manage the not-insubstantial costs of numbers, there will be a few for the issuing of replacement number sets once the season starts - $20 (note: if you don't already have a set of numbers, the first set is free).
  • The $5 levy/rider, per race that was instituted last year to pay for the timing system and course stakes will continue for 2015 to finish paying off the system, and may continue into 2016. When you the awesome, fast, accurate results the system creates you'll think $5/race is a deal.
  • Cross Labs (learn to cyclocross clinics, free and open to all) are planned for August 26, September 2 and September 9. More details coming.
  • Number and timing chip pick up night will also be September 9 (right after cross lab, in the same venue).
Also, Olympia Cycle will be hosting some info clinics in August that focus on cyclocross. Watch olympiacycle.com/clinics for details...

Dogfest

The OCC is proud to sponsor the OCC 24-hours of Falcon Ridge Dogfest tomorrow evening. Enjoy a dog on us sometime tomorrow evening, we don't really know what time it starts but you'll know when it happens.

Thanks…

...to everyone who helped with our races this year. We still have one more race to go (details coming soon), it has been fun and rewarding to putting on races this season. Looking forward to more in 2011 cat-4-start

Beach Words

beach-shot For a course that was not suppose to have as much sand as previous RtB courses, this one managed to hold its own when it came to stretches of granular hell. The saving grace for this course was the salvation of more hard pack sections, variety of terrain, and interesting twists and turns of trail. It was hot, humid and sunny with some overcast, and not a drop of rain anywhere but in Winnipeg. 40+ riders took on the course and most, if not all had a good good time; some got lost and were found, some set blistering paces while others took a more measured approach. The food was good and shared experience of the event was even better - there is no better way to start August than participating in the classic enduro formerly know as Reach the Beach and now known as "Where's the Beach? In Stead" Please let us know how you felt about the event: good, bad or indifferent, we want to know so we can make it even better for you next year. Results will be posted soon.
